Mozart - Requiem
The Requiem in D minor, K. 626, is a requiem mass for soloists, chorus and orchestra that was left incomplete in 1791 by Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756 - 1791). The version we usually here nowadays is the one completed in 1792 by Franz Xaver Süssmayr. For more information about the work and its background, see the extensive Wikipedia article. Even though the work is not 100% Mozart, it found widespread acceptance and is generally considered one of the best Requiems ever composed. The average playing time is 46 minutes (AllMusic). My version is by he Academy and chorus of St Martin-in-the-Fields under Neville Marriner, with Ileana Cotrubaș, Helen Watts, Robert Tear, and John Shirley-Quirk, on a Decca/London CD.
