This violin concerto in E minor, Op. 64, was completed in 1844 by German composer Felix Mendelssohn (1809 - 1847). It was to be his last large orchestral work and is one of the most popular and most frequently performed violin concertos in history. The concerto consists of three movements in a standard fast–slow–fast structure, but still has many novel features for its time (see the Wiki link for more details). For me, this is the most beautiful violin concerto ever composed. The average playing time is 27 minutes (AllMusic). My version is by Nathan Milstein and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra Orchestra under Claudio Abbado on a Deutsche Grammophon CD.
