Mendelssohn - Symphony No. 3 "Scottish"

Symphony No. 3 in A minor, Op. 56, known as the Scottish, was begun in 1829 and finalized in 1842 by German composer Felix Mendelssohn (1809 - 1847). Mendelssohn was initially inspired to compose this symphony during his first visit to Britain in 1829, but took his time before he considered the work finished. Although numbered as the third, it was actually the last of his five mature symphonies. This masterpiece contains some of the most beautiful and moving symphonic  melodies written between Schubert and Mahler, while also conveying a feeling of strength as befits the rugged landscape that inspired it. The work is in four movements without breaks, described in detail in the Wiki article and the average playing time is 37 minutes (AllMusic). My version is by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under Georg Solti on a Decca/London CD.
