Moeran - Cello Concerto

This cello concerto in B minor was completed in 1945 by British composer Ernest John Moeran (1894 - 1950). It was written for his wife to be, Kathleen Peers Coetmore. It is a rather traditional concerto in three movements, with an average playing time of 29 minutes (AllMusic), but it is simply beautiful. When asked for the best cello concerto of all time, most people will go for Dvořák or Elgar, but for me it is this gem by Moeran.  I have three versions, of which I have a preference for Raphael Wallfisch with the Bournemouth Sinfonietta under Norman del Mar on a Chandos CD.
